The Brooch beats to the pulse of your heart. Multiple strands sequentially contract with each contraction of the wearer’s heart, revealing much of what is being experienced.

Here is how it works:

The wearer’s heart beat is monitored via the shirt’s cuff ECG leads which are translated and processed by a Wiring Prototyping Board. These signals are converted to pulses of current which run through thin strands of Nitinol, a shape memory alloy, heating them up. This heating causes a change in shape of these strands reflecting the wearers heart beat and associated changes in heart rhythm.

The Neck Tie reveals the wearer’s deepest and most hidden feelings. The tie colors the silk as it slowly rolls out of the knot creating “today’s” Tie; the patterns and colors reflects stress vs. calm, active vs., passive and excitement vs., boredom. At the end of the day simply snip the tie off and one is left with an image of all that one experienced that day.

The Neck Tie clips onto the shirt and is connected to its electric circuit via conductive fabric applied to the shirt.

Here’s how it works.

Heart Rhythm and Coherence:

Inside the cuffs of the shirt are two ECG leads which monitor the subtle changes in the wearer’s heart rhythm. This type of measurement is known as Heart Rate Variability (HRV). The analysis reflects heart-brain interaction and autonomic nervous system dynamics, which are particularly sensitive to changes in emotional states. When the wearer experiences stressful emotions such as tension, anxiety, irritation or anger the heart rhythm becomes irregular and incoherent. Alternatively, when experiencing positive emotions such as appreciation, care, joy or love the heart rhythm becomes more ordered and coherent.

Activity:

The shirts cuff is fastened with a motion sensor cufflink that monitors any physical activity or movement.
All of the monitored parameters are translated and processed by a Wiring Prototyping Board into a visual expression which reflect the deepest feeling and experience of the wearer. A contious printout from the neck Tie is the medium of expression: coloured ink is injected onto the silk tie, the different emotions affecting the size and color of the print.

Inter-leafing Roof Tiles:
Terracotta tiles that are shaped in the form of the six segmented fig leaf which creates a mesh of interlocking / interleaving tapestry.

Design Concept:
We saw the need for roof tiles which can blend into its environment. Many homes or buildings make use of roof tiles, which for lack of any alternatives, detract from the architectures design to blend within the natural surroundings of the building. The fig leaf shaped roof tile would blend into a natural environment of trees and shrubbery.

QWERTY Wheels:
A clockwork car that is solely built from parts of the old conventional type writer. The familial “end of carriage ring” which is triggered intermittently, reminds us of its origin.

Design concept:
By definition everything around us is a rearrangement of the same basic components: from the level of atoms and molecules which make up a grain of salt to the Orion Nebula, and to the order of letters from hieroglyphics to Shakespeare they all share the same principle.

The carriage return spring

Modula consists of a symmetrical arrangement of modular multi-accessible vessels that when interlocked with each other, delineate separate spaces. While maintaining its usefulness in acting as a storage space it simultaneously allows a feeling of spaciousness. An illustration of this concept is its usage in open plan homes where there is still a need to separate functionality between a living-room and kitchen.

Modula is made of earthenware ceramics and molded in slip casting.

Designed to create the feeling of your hands being immersed in a sphere of flowing water. The basin sphere surrounds you given you the feeling that your hands are enclosed in a sterile clean environment.
